Design Concept:

Gui (簋) vessel is an ancient bronze vessel typically circular or oval-shaped with two handles. Its bottom is rounded and it is often used for holding food.  In ancient Chinese rituals, gui symbolizes harvest, harmony, auspiciousness, and also represents societal stability and harmony. The etching text was adapted from Confucius saying,  "The wise are joyful, the benevolent are longevity."

Joy in Nature

Sleep soundly and eat well,
Be open-minded
Be satisfying and joyful.
As the mountains are high,
As the waters run far.

Etched in Liuli are the words:
The wise are joyful, the benevolent are longevity.

Confucius said:
The wise delight in water,
the benevolent delight in the mountains.

The wise are in motion,
the benevolent are still.

The wise are joyful,
the benevolent are longevity.
